Samsung Fully Automatic washing Machines Launch Gallery

R. Zutshi, Deputy Managing Director, Samsung India, and Bollywood actor Neha Dhupia at a launch function in Chennai on Wednesday.

Samsung India Electronics is planning to invest $20 million (around Rs. 100 crore) during 2009. The company has a turnover target of $2 billion (around Rs. 10,000 crore) in the current calendar year.

Addressing a press conference, after the launch of a range of fully automatic washing machines here on Wednesday, R. Zutshi, Deputy Managing Director, said the proposed investment would be used for the purchase of plant and machinery and investment in modules. The funds would also be used to expand capacity of its Noida plant, near Delhi, to one million units from six lakh units.

He said the Chennai facility, which had a capacity to make 1.5 million television sets annually, had now started manufacturing washing machines and had targeted to produce 50,000 of them.

The company targets to sell eight lakh washing machines in 2009 as compared to six lakh units last year. The focus would be on automatic machines. He said last year, the company sold 2.40 lakh units of fully automatic machines and had set a target for 3.6 lakh units in 2009. Mr. Zutshi said that washing machines sales in the country were likely to touch 2.4 million in 2009 compared to 2.2 million in 2008.

The company’s growth rate would be 30 per cent in the current year as compared to 25 per cent last year. During 2008, the company had revenues of $1.5 billion.

Mr. Zutshi said the export target for 2009 was Rs. 1,200 crore as compared to Rs. 550 crore in 2008. At present, the company exports washing machines and refrigerators to SAARC countries.
