It looks like Valmiki, the latest from the stables of Vikatan Talkies has already kicked off its share of blitzkrieg occasions. At the audio launch that took place at Sathyam Cinemas, a host of Kollywood celebrities took their place on stage, to release the music, composed by the maestro Ilaiyaraja himself.
Two romantic songs were screened at the launch as well. Also present at the launch were bigwigs, Rama Narayanan, Directors Lingusamy, Madhesh, Balaji Shakthivel and Shankar, Kalaippuli G. Shekaran, Abhirami Ramanathan, Ilaiyaraja, Na.Muthukumar, Palani Bharathy, Pa.Vijay.Thamarai, Yugabharathi in company of the cast and crew of the film.
With eminent directors participating – Shankar and Lingusamy released the audio, which was received by Ilayaraja, things were off to a good start, with several lyricists participating and speaking very highly of the maestro, including director Mysskin, who sang encomiums to the composer. The great man, however, did not seem too pleased by their speeches, though. “Either those who speak praise themselves, or they speak badly about the others. I can’t stand this hypocrisy,” he said, much to the surprise and discomfort of those present. He did, however, say that he was keen on composing for new directors, as that was how he had entered the film world.
He left very quickly – but left an audience baffled and not very satisfied with the outcome. Wonder what set the maestro’s composure off-note?
