Veteran joins Vijay for Jilla

Actress Poornima Bhagyaraj is on a comeback mode. As we had earlier reported, the veteran actress is doing a pivotal part in Suseendran’s Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer. Now we have come to the understanding that she has also signed a biggie.

The actress will be a part of Vijay starrer Jilla. The news was confirmed by Shanthanoo Bhagyaraj through his twitter post- “Yes my mom is acting with Vijay Anna & Mohan Lal sir in Jilla. Super happy that my mom is getting such good projects in her return after 28yrs.”

Meanwhile, Nesan’s Jilla will go on floors in May. Kajal Aggarwal will play the female lead and Imman will work on the music.

Steven Spielberg's next in India

Acclaimed Hollywood director Steven Spielberg is currently in India on invitation from Anil Ambani as Reliance Pictures have tied up with Dreamworks Studios, an entity owned by the Oscar winning director. It is believed that Spielberg will base his next film on Kashmir, an area that’s not entirely alien to him since his father was in Kashmir during the World War II. Reviving his father’s old photos has sparked the idea in him to shoot in Kashmir for his next film.

Talking about doing a Bollywood film, Spielberg said that he is yet to receive a script that will offer him the opportunity to work on a Bollywood production. He says that he has had the chance to watch a few Indian films and his favorite ones are ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Awaara’. He has also seen a few Satyajit Ray movies.

Ajith takes a complete 'U Turn'

Ajith’s next film with Siruthai Siva, co-starring Tamannah, is expected to have a rural backdrop as Ajith felt he needed to do something different after trying his hand at several urban based films in the recent past. He has also been getting requests from his fans in this regard.

Ajith has also requested his director to tone down the heroism in the film and instead focus more on the content and script of the film. Even the title is expected to be something which gels with the movie’s script rather than Ajith’s heroic image.

The film’s shoots are expected to happen in Hyderabad and other southern districts of Tamil Nadu.

Kamal Haasan and Vishnuvardhan spotted

The wedding reception of art director Lalgudi N Ilaiyaraja was held in Chennai’s Green Park Hotel, this past Sunday, the 10th of March. The event was attended by Kamal Haasan and Vishnuvardhan as Ilaiyaraja has been associated with their respective movies, Vishwaroopam and the Ajith starrer tentatively titled Valai.

Ilaiyaraja also worked in the critically acclaimed Haridas and is also a part of the Simbu starrer Vaalu. Simbu could not attend the reception though.

The crew who worked in the above mentioned movies were also in full attendance on this joyous occasion.

From animals to Gods to Powerstar, the journey continues

Veteran director Ramanarayanan who was involved in the distribution of this year’s hit Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya, has decided to take up direction again.

He, as we know, holds the world record for having directed the most number of films (rumored to be 125) in his career which has spanned more than 36 years. He has been a specialist in helming movies based on animals and Hindu devotional subjects.

His next would feature Powerstar Srinivasan and the film has been titled "Naan Sarakku Nee Oorugai". More cast and crew details are awaited.

Lingusamy's offer to Gautham Menon

Director Lingusamy has plans of producing some quality movies this year as well under his Thirupathi Brothers banner. Last year, he gave some memorable movies such as Vazhakku En 18/9 and Kumki and this year, he has plans of producing up to 5 films.

One of these films will be directed by Gautham Menon, as it seems Lingusamy has requested the director to direct a film for his banner. We have to see if Gautham takes up this offer. Lingusamy had also revealed in a recent interaction that he plans to produce movies for all the directors that he respects in the industry.

Lingusamy’s next directorial meanwhile would be a movie featuring Suriya which would be commenced around the month of April.
