Shobana’s Maya Ravan
Maya Ravan is a 2 hour dance ballet where the medium of communication is a union of hand gestures and body movements of some classical dances of India. The ballet is based on the life of the demon King ‘Ravan’ who rules over the kingdom of Lanka from the great Indian mythological epic ‘Ramayan’.
The ballet portrays the character of the Demon King Ravan as an ambitious, brave yet over confident and stubborn and full of pride personality and his quest to win over Lord Rama and his kingdom ayodhya by kidnapping Lord Rama’s wife Sita. Rama befriends a tribe of primates led by Hanuman who vow to assist him in his quest to bring back Sita. Hanuman goes to Lanka to mediate and bring back sita without bloodshed. Ravan in turn answers by setting Hanuman’s tail on fire!! Thus sown are the seeds of a great battle in Indian mythological history which is beautifully performed in the ballet. Ravan’s death act leaves the viewer in tears and respect for such performance of art.
Choreographed, directed and acted by veteran Bharatnatyam Dancer and Film Actress ‘Shobana’ and her dance troupe, Maya Ravan is a gripping presentation of Indian Mythology through the fine arts through well choreographed music and dance which leaves the viewer mesmerized and carries a lovable perspective of Indian mythology to audiences around the world.
Shobana, in Maya Ravan skillfully innovates to assemble an eclectic collage of energies ranging from the traditional beauty of Bharatanatyam to the excitement of fusion with world music and magical Indian film music. The production is narrated in English by Indian film artists like Naseeruddin Shah, Jackie Shroff, Milind Soman, Suhasini Maniratnam, Revathy, Rohini, Tabu, Sameer Sony and Mohanlal.

Oru Thodarum Sarithiram- a biography on the actor
Vijay TV the exclusive Television Channel nominated to celebrate the 50 years of Kamal Haasan in its own exclusive way has planned a series of events in the next six weeks. The celebrations began with the flag off of “Kamal Express”. The event witnessed top film personalities attending the flag off. AVM Saravannan, V. C. Guganathan and Ramanarayanan graced the occasion. Along with them the star’s daughter Akshara Haasan and Gawthami’s daughter Subbulakshmi were also present. An exclusive photo exhibition with rare photographs of the star adorned the interiors of the bus. Kamal express has started to traverse across the state.
In parallel, Vijay TV is also airing a special series on Dr. Padmashree Kamal Haasan. Beginning from August 31, 2009, the show will be a biography on the actor. “Rin Ulaganayagan Kamal – Oru thodarum sarithiram” would talk about his childhood days as an actor, his first passion – the theatre and his life in cinema. The show would feature the star’s childhood days at Paramakudi, a little known fact about his siblings, family and especially Kamal Haasan’s parents.
The crew pays a special visit to Paramkudi, Tiruchi and Ramnad, exclusively shot visuals of the house where Kamal and his family lived would also be showcased in the biography special.
Kamal Haasan’s colleagues and friends share their on screen and off screen experiences with the great man. The series is high on emotions and is a rare collection of never before seen videos. ‘Rin Ulaganayagan Kamal Oru thodarum sarithiram’, starting August 31, 2009, this series, airs every Monday – Thursday at 8pm on Vijay TV. Dr Rajendra Prasad, who plays Quick Gun Murugun in his next flick has done something unusual to promote his Quick Gun Murugan movie. He has decided to enter the Guinness Book of World Records of preparing the largest dosa’ in the world at Sankalp restaurant in Ahmedabad. Quick Gun Murugan is a cowboy fighting for the virtues of vegetarian food while the villain fights for non-vegetarian dishes. Quick Gun Murugan’ is produced by Fox Star Studios on August 28th.
