Dhanam - The story is about dasis


Dhanam with Sangeetha in the lead is nearing completion. Sangeetha plays a meaty role in the movie, which is said to revolve around the life of a commercial sex worker played by her. Director G. Shiva has come up with a different story which revolves around the life of a sex worker played by Uyir Sangeetha. National award winner Girish Karnad plays an important character role in the movie. Aziz Vidyaarthy, Prem, Raj Kapoor also play important roles and Karunas takes up the role of a comedian. The shooting of the movie is progressing in Hyderabad at Ramoji Film City.

Dhanam shooting has been done at famous dasi centres in Andhra like Peddapuram and Silukoorpuram. The unit has returned now to Chennai.

The next phase of acting will take place in Thirunelveli, Tenkasi and Ambasamudram.

Art director Thotta Tharani has come up with excellent sets for the movie. The budget for the sets has come to Rs. 30 lakhs. Music director Illiyaraja got very impressed after listening to the story and suggested interesting situations for the movie. Lyrics are penned by Vaali.

Would ‘Dhanam’ be like an art film? It would but there will also be no lack of commercial value, says the director. The film will be released in Tamil and Telugu at the same time.

The movie is getting ready to hit the theatres soon.

29 years of Noble charity - Sivakumar Charitable Trust


Continuing their 29 years of noble charity, Sivakumar Charitable Trust on Saturday distributed scholarship to the tune of Rs. Three lakhs to the toppers of the Plus Two and Tenth standard government examinations.

The Sri Sivakumar Educational and Charitable Trust was initiated by actor Sivakumar in the year 1979 and inagurated by late CM MGR. Every year the trust has been giving financial assistance to deserving meritorious student. The trust was founded in May 1979 during a function held to mark Sivakumar’s 100th film `Rosappoo Ravikkaikari’.

Actor Surya on the behalf of Agaram Foundations also donated certain sum of amount for the students who are undergoing higher studies like IAS training and medicine. He also uttered that talks are going on with Government to start off with free tuition centres all throughout the State of Tamil Nadu. Also he added that around Rs. 25Lakhs will be spent for the good education of poor students who are really talented and intelligent.

As per the past years, Surya also participated in the function and his sister Brinda sang the prayer song and started the function.

Bharath`s Killadi resumes shooting


Way back in 2006, the pooja of Bharath and Nila starrer Killadi movie happened. The movie was to be produced by Salem Chandrasekher, but due to financial problems, the movie was kept in halt for all along and to bail out the producer, Bharath and Nila have agreed to give dates for this movie. Killadi will finally resume shooting by next month. The film will be directed by A. Venkatesh.

Barath plays the role of an easy-going college student who takes nothing seriously. He follows a “take-it-easy policy” as do the present-day youth. He always takes life’s challenges in a playful way. He falls in love with Nila. His none-too-serious love affair lands him in situations with dangerous consequences. How will he overcome these problems?.

Bharath, who plays the lead, is currently working on Seval, and also has Aarumugham by director Suresh Krishna in the waiting. Nila, the lead lady of Killadi, is working on Jagan Mohini.

The film’s score and soundtrack are composed by Srikanth Deva. Vivek plays comedian. A new face, Sampath, has been introduced as a villain, in addition to Asish Vidyarthi and many other supporting characters.

Another movie star enters TV with Kalasam


The star who gave new definition to negative role with her impressive portrayal of Neelambari is another star stepping in from movies to television serials. She will be seen in ‘Kalasam’, a mega serial on Sun TV which promises to be different from all the emotional family dramas that are being currently aired on TV.

Kalasam for a change will deal with the difficulties that lead protagonist Ramya Krishnan will face in her work place. After Poranda Veeda Pukunda Veeda ended, Kalasam has taken over the 8.30 pm slot from June 14th in Sun TV. In the serial, she is doing a double role. One of them is Nilambari, a character she played in the Rajini-starrer Padayappa and the other is Ranjani, an ordinary middle-class woman competing with business tycoon Sudha Chandran and fighting male chauvinism.

The serial is written by Kutty Padmini and produced by daughter Keerthana jointly with Ramya Krishnan’s sister Vinaya Krishnan. evan, Vijaya Krishnaraj, Metti Oli Vanaja, Sreedhar, Manohar also play prominent roles in the serial. Screenplay is by Devi Bala and dialogues by Jagan Mohan. The serial will be directed by M R Senthil Kumar. According to sources, the talented actress has surpassed Simran when it comes to remuneration. She is getting paid Rs 2 lakh per each episode of Kalasam.

However television is not a new medium for Ramya Krishnan who was earlier seen in Thangavettai, a game show on Sun TV.
